How hard is it to come by a set of 4.30 gears for the Tacoma? It seems only a small number of tacos including the tundras came with these gears. I would like to find a set since they are the perfect ratio for 33" tires on a tundra.
I think that third you set up for me ben are 4.10's but I will check

For the front (7.5"), you have a better chance in winning the lottery. I do know someone that might have a set but he might want to let them go. I'll call him and find out for you if doesn't chime in later.
Just go with 4.56 or 4.88 an enjoy the extra torque. See write up: LINK .02

I will have a rear 4.30 8" sometime in the near future.
This is for dad's street Tundra. I'm over geared in my 80 series with 4.88 and 36" tires and I don't even like that so I know my dad will hate lower gears in his Tundra. I think the options are stock gears or 4.30. 4.10's are a maybe but since it's not much down from the stock 3.91 probably not.

WHA??? 4.88s w/ 36" tires puts you right back to stock gearing in an 80.

NOPE. 4.10 gears and 31.2" tires (275/50) compair to 4.88 and 37.2" tires. With a swamper that measures 36" (per interco's specs) it's still overgeared. It's streetable and better off road but I wouldn't mind 38 tires (37.8") since my 80 is more a weekend street queen.

Keep me posted. If I don't like the slight overgear in my 80 series, I know dad won't put up with a higher overgear with 4.56s.

Awesome! I'll let you know as soon as I get a line on a front diff.
There are 4:10 and 4:30 oem options for the 5vz 4wd Tundra's
The front differential is a lightweight and compact differential that is similar to that of the ’99 Toyota Tacoma and 4Runner. However, in the A.D.D. (Automatic Disconnecting Differential) system, an electric motor type actuator that is field-proven in the transfer and the differential lock mechanism has been adopted.
In conjunction with the change in the actuator, an A.D.D. position switch with a built-in A.D.D. actuator
Crazy, the junk yard I always deal with HAD two 4runners with 4.30 front diffs. They now have one. I've walked by thoses things many many times and never thought to check. If anyone is looking for a 4.30 front let me know and I'll go down and pickup the other.
Now I gotta figure out how to get that diff from Joe.
