warning: BANDWIDTH HEAVY, lots of pictures.
Anyone get their transmission stuck in gear, third to be exact? And how did you fix it? I am not under warranty. Only like 4 months out, but under 60k at 578xx.
To explain the backstory. I was driving home from the mountains and in the middle of town, Escalon, CA. I shift into neutral coming to a red light. Well the light goes green, so I push clutch in and try to shift into 1st. Well no go, the shifter would move sideways between the gears but would not select a gear. So I let the clutch out and the engine dies like its in gear. So in gear i slowly let the clutch out to limp it into a driveway on the side of the road. I have it towed home by AAA, and when we get home I decide I'd look under the shifter and take it out, because I have a TRD Quickshifter in the box. So open it up get in there and put the quickshifter in and same problem. Inside I did see a few little metal shavings. I can take pics. With the quickshifter in I still cannot get it out of gear.
Since I am out of warranty, and calling multiple toyota stealerships yields that they deny any problems with the 6-speed and that they dont really diagnose internal transmission problems, but just replace it with a remanufactured trans. And Toyota Customer Experience wants nothing to do with it, they told me even though I have had 4 other toyota trucks and 1 toyota car that I should not buy a another Toyota again! So it seems like Im gonne be pulling the trans out and dissassembling it myself or have it towed to a trans shop and have them work on it.
Anybody have any Ideas on fixing it or what you have had done to your transmission to fix it stuck in gear would be much appreciated. Thanks.
