Default 2.7 in a pickup?

Anyone done it or see one done? How involved would the swap be? I found a 2.7 with tranny and transfer case locally and I'm thinking it would be an improvement over the 22r in my 86..

Kyle is has been done before I believe there was some info on Pirate about this. The only thing is you will need a T-case adapter to run your gear driven case. Also the hardest part would be wiring everything up.

A 2.7L clutch and bell housing will mount to a W56 transmission. This could be cheaper than buying the t-case adapter.

Mike over at Marlin Crawlers is doing it in a 81-83 model p/u. You might wanna go to their board and give him a shout! Good luck w/ it. Peace, Wes

The swap would be well worth it. I have had a 20r, 22r, several 22re's, a 3.0, a 3.4, and now a 2.7. The 2.7 has been my second favorite in line under the 3.4. Very strong for a 4 cylinder motor. My taco pulls hills very nicely. There is some pretty detailed info on pirate but youll need a real fsm to get the wiring right.

John here in So-Cal did that to his older 4-runner. He got the engine, wiring harness, ECM and I think even the tranny to go with it. He knows his stuff (he built a full rock buggy) so I think he did the swap himself with very little issues.
