Ok Guys, Should I just replace the boots for or go for a complete re manufactured axle? Just noticed grease on inner fender, there is a small hole in the outer drivers side boot. It's probably been there for 200 miles or so. 2005 Tacoma with 113k probably original CV's
Thanks |

Just replace the boot. The joint is probably fine.

I got the boot kit from a local Toyota dealership. It was $51 and it has three normal boot clamps and one wierd one that I can't figure out. WTF is this?! Anyway It's going back and I'm getting a remanufactured one for 70 bucks or so. Anyone have experience with how well these hold up compared to stock ones?

From what I've heard the non OEM CV remans have less articulation and bind easier. They may also be less strong.

That's kind of what I was worried about when I posted. All the local parts places have cv on backorder so I might get one online. No core charge means I'll have a spare anyway. BTW Toyota wants almost 500 for a new cv axle. Pretty sick.

My OEM boot kit was $30 something. Included an inboard and outboard boot, two clamps for each and grease.

Replaced axle installed quote for $300 today. Guy told me by the time he gets two kits and repacks them it just made more sense to get new axle all together. He said new material in CV boots stand up better to tearing. 2003 taco dc 4wd, OME 882's with diff drop and i don't even wheel.

Take a look at buying a remanufactured OEM axle from CVJ. I have two I keep as spares and then reboot the ones on my truck as necessary.
