Bald mountain has decent signs, strawberry lake/ coyote/ mirror do too. The Brewer sign that points toward South Tamarac road instead of up
Foster ridge messed me up.

I don't think those things are technically mushrooms.

In my neck of the woods we have a mushroom called "Chicken of the Woods" commonly grows near the base of a tree or a few feet off the ground on trees that are about to die or have died.

After digging around on the internet, it "appears" that it might be a Ganoderma oregonense. It looks about right, has the right description.

Dusy-Ershim officially opened Friday afternoon(8-19-2011). There are now two new toilets at Ershim Lake courtesy of Hill Hoppers 4WD Club. They did the install because they have adopted that campground. I helped them haul in sections on the 13th and my son and I helped put up the first toilet on the 19th. The old log cabin looking outhouse has been mostly cut down for firewood.

Happy trails.

Every rig through Dusy-Ershim changes the trail, some more than others. The bigger rigs will kick boulders or logs into the trail.

Which way would you consider to be the hardest? The way you guys went or the other way. i.e going up chicken rock?

I remember Marlin 'rating' the trial a 9 from south to north and a 10 going the other way. the climb out of Lakecamp Lk is pretty crazy going south. The next time I run the trail I want to do the N to S route

Northbound is tougher because you go up Thompson Hill. The rating is 10 Northbound and 9 Southbound. Thompson hill looked really torn up,everyone was glad we went down instead of up. Going southbound you go up gatekeeper,Boulder alley, the hill between Lakecamp and Mallard and Little Thompson. Going North you also go up the hill right after Ershim Lake(similar to the one between lakecamp and Mallard Lake.

I like the trail in both directions, keeps things interesting.

Hopefully there'll be an early thaw, and we'll be on the trail in late July!

Everything I've heard from the forest service for some time now is that Dusy-Ershim wont open until August 1st from now on,no matter what the snow does.

At the last travel management meeting I went to(a couple years ago,I think)the person in charge at that time said they would do a temporary opening order if the conditions are right to open the trail early. There's a new District Ranger now and I'm not hearing that anymore.

I'm working on getting quotes to build new toilets on the trail. I've taken the plans to 6 Lumbercompanies/building suppliers and have received one quote so far$1500 each and that doesn't include everything. Some odds and ends are not on the list. Vent pipe, elbow, door handle and latches, hog wire to keep marmots out,lag bolts to secure hinges and a few other things. So the price will go up still. Maybe we will only get two toilets out of the $4,000 we got from BFG. If anyone can help with better pricing or donations, please let me know. We plan on building and installing them this coming season.

Wanted to let everyone know where we were at on this.
