Default Out with the New, in with the Old

So I sold my 07 and I picked up an 85 4runner yesterday Pics of the trial run soon!
I drove it home from Reno so I stopped by Eagle Lakes to test it out. Runs pretty good, but it definitely needs some improvements. If anyone has done any work on these type of set ups, I'd definitely trade you some cold ones to pick your brain and take some notes on the work I'll be doing to it. I'm not doing anything extreme this summer, but the work I am doing I want done right the first time (to avoid any rear bumper dilemas )
Has 4.88's, detroit in the rear, 33's, ~3" lift, no armor.
Immediate work:
Shocks are completely blown so I might use this excuse to get a slightly bigger lift thats more capable of fitting 35s in the long run.
Needs armor. No sliders nor bumpers so these will be going on quickly.
Some engine work - it has a hard time starting in the morning when its cold. It also has difficulty sometimes shifting into first gear for some reason.
Dual cases and all that fun jazz probably wont come until next summer, so this is the immediate work I'll be doing.
Anyways, just thought I'd start a thread for everyone to as I show how much I dont know !

PS - NO snow up in the mountains so wheeling season is officially here and I can finally take up the knuckleheads who helped me last time

Well here she is. Havnt had any time to work on her because I've been slammed with finals this upcoming week. Once I'm done tho its time to get to work. Engine comes first, have a few things to fix - fan clutch, fuel pump (i think), and a couple wiring issues. Then I'll be looking into suspension.

From eagle lakes:

Trails are ready to go. Little washed out and rough at driveshaft but seemed fine everywhere else. I didnt run into a single patch of snow. And driving back from Reno I was shocked at the lack of snow..I'd say theres about 10-20% left overall.

That'd be awesome, thanks man. Some unexpected fees came up so I wont be doing as much suspension work as I was hoping too I'll probably end up rocking the 3" lift and 33's that it already has for this summer and upgrade next

sweet rig. I love those old 4runners. How was the transition from the modern Tacoma to the older runner?

It hasnt been too bad. I've wanted this model 4runner forever so it was awesome when I finally got it. Only real difficulty I'm having is trying to adjust to the engine haha. Going from a 4.0 v6 to this gutless 4banger is ridiculous. Its a joke going up hills, but I still love the rig so far.

Try driving up hills in a 6000 lb Land Cruiser with a 4.0 liter I6 that only had 155 horsepower off the showroom floor. Then talk to me about slow.....

I love the early 4runners. If i find one i'm buying it.

The LC will pull better up the hills than this thing, guaranteed

Well, I got to test her out this weekend on slickrock...and she did very well. Havnt had a chance to weld up the sliders yet, and it never even got close to touching the panels. Walked right on through the trail.

Still has some work to do. Front shocks (waiting on hoops), managed to knock out 1 of the 3 CEL codes today. Baby steps..
