Is it just me, or does it look like it wants to go end over end every time it comes down from a jump or whoop?
Why does this supposed "autonomous" vehicle have a driver in it for every shot?
How appropriate of a comparison was the "competition" they showed?

I does look like a blast to play with though.

i could have some fun with that....but i'd hate to blow that motor....$$$$$$$

I like it, but the guys who built it seem more interested in airtime (i.e; TV) than anything else.....That's a negative mark for me. Be interesting to see what they do put it through.

the motor in tht thing is a turboshaft. you would be hard pressed to blow that one.

The Darpa Grand Challenge is a contest setup by darpa where companies, schools etc build offroad autonomous vehicles that have to navigate an offroad course without any assistance other than a kill switch. Most companies that sent in entries used things like golf carts, existing 4x4's and other already fabbed vehicles that were modified. Berkley even used a motorcycle last year that was gyroscopically stabilized, it made it 15 feet before falling over.

This thing looks like a test rig for Grand Challange, without all the autonomous stuff in it yet. Seeing what was entered in the grand challenge the last few years these guys are at east starting in the right place. Several robots failed because they never thought to shock mount their electronics or bounced off the trail before they werent really offroad capable.

Darpa's idea with the Grand Challange is that they would offer up prize money and other schools and companies would essentially do the R&D for them. They in turn can sell it to the military... works out for everyone.
