well im workin along these lines for my truck:

1. what can i afford to do?
2. what can i do? (seein as i am still livin in my parents house)
3. what will make my truck better?

so with that said here we go into the story of my 2002 TRD Double Cab Prerunner......................................... ...

i bought the truck my senior year in high school (october of 2005) after my old van finally died on me. thats when i found ttora and did my first mod: flowmaster super 40 single in dual out.

here is a pic of when i first started off roading it

as you can see im stuck in this pic. a muddy hill+ a/t's+ lack of driving skill= stuck.

when i saved up and got a set of used saw 2.0's off a local ttora member. i went and purchased a set of deaver 3 leaf aal's and bilstein 5100's from www.wheelersoffroad.com to go onto the rear.

so far here is where i stand for cost:

saw's: $400
deaver aal: $387

now it was onto the rear. the deaver aal's are easy to put on. sorry i didnt get many pics for this part of the build

now it came time for the tires. i decided to go with a set of interco trxus m/t's b/c i liked the tread pattern and the cost (about $10 cheaper than the bfg mt at the time in the size i needed)

so after work the next day i got tires put on. so here is a pic of my truck with the tires on


size: 285/75/16
price: $167 each so total is $668

***so far im up to roughly $1455 in the course of a month.***

so a year passed wile i was off at school where nothing really happened to my truck minus the addition of a UWS black low profile tool box that i got as a christmas present from my aunt (january 2007) and thats about it.


so lets just jump forward now to july 2007 when i finally saved up enough money to re-gear my rear end. i was also in bad need of new tires so i opted to get tires/gears done at the same time. so one day in july i took my truck up to PORC and dropped it off. sorry i dont really have any pics of this part of my trucks story so deal with it, lol.

i went and got a set of 4.56:1 gears put in my rear end adn another set of 285/75/16 trxus m/t's (i love these tires)

cost of gears/tires: $1400

total at this point: $2855





this leads up to where i am at now on my truck.......... 4x4 conversion!!!!!!!!!!

just a pile of parts right now but im goin to start workin on cleanin it up this up comin weekend and i will eventually re-gear it as well to 4.56:1.
here is what i have for this part of my project that i got in my room.

HOW TO GET A 4x4 SHIFTER PLATE FOR $30

remove the PreRunner shifter plate

cut out the X


all cut

take a file to the edge of your cut so there is no sharp edges to cut the boot

all done..... thats how you get a 4x4 shifter plate for $30

bumper is finally here

the 4xinnovation bumper requires modifications to your vehicle (body lift in my case) in order for the bumper to go on smoothly....

***this is in no way me saying their stuff isn't good quality, just saying i ran into problems getting my bumper to go on***

this is all i was able to get done today




step 1
remove stock bumper

(total of 4 bolts holds the bumper on)

step 2


remove that (4 bolts as well)

step 3
remove the cross member that folds the skid on

(2 bolts)

end result


then got_cope? came over later on this afternoon to help me out and all we got accomplished was a trip to home depot and figured out that i need to wash my truck more and get a body lift.

well me and colin messed around with it this afternoon and we are both under the agreement that a body lift is in order to fix this problem

contact the fender when mount is in this position



i will be ordering my body lift and cleaning the truck off asap before i go to mess with the bumper again.

so here are the problems that i ran into

• the mounting brackets are to narrow it seems to get them to go over the frame rails

• the bolt holes dont line up that good... if not at all

• there is NO clearance between the top of the bumper and the bottom of the fenders

but on a good note look what the ups guy dropped off

well i ended up getting a waggy axle today.

i gotta go get a new pickle fork, some more cut off wheels, and wire brushes for my grinder so i can finish cleaning it up and tearing it down.
