Looks good, one question though. Does it block the 3rd light? If it does is it going to be a problem with the law? Just curious?

it didnt but now that the hi-lift is there it kinda does... you can see the glow through the hi-lift

cop cars are lower than trucks so they should be able to see it from behind the truck...

Looks good though, are you putting your tire up there or a basket?

This is just a quick idea off the top of my head, (granted, I don't know the exact dimensions of the basket, etc)

But a slick idea might be to mount your spare tire on the bottom side or underneath the bed bar via the stock cable system.

that way you could carry the spare full time there, and have easy access (won't drop it on your head trying to remove it) to the spare.

This would allow you to have full time access to your basket, and remove the spare from underneath the bed for better trail clearance.

Just a thought, might be an interesting engineering challenge but would be cool.

If you do not have the stock cable pulley, let me know. I think I still have mine laying in a corner somewhere in my garage.

Depending on how wide the tire is, it might block the review mirror, which is another legal issue.

indeed Bear, that would be sick... SGTBRASE a fellow ttora member is who i'm building it for he has an on the bed rail tool box that goes under the cage so i think the tire on top is gonna be the situation...

honestly, what would be the difference between the tire hanging under the cage and those big swing out tire carrier jeep style bumpers everyone is putting on their tacoma's... i think they block the rear veiw mirror just as much as bear's idea...

I would actually have it up out of my lower line of vision. I know with my truck I can't see car's behind me anyway, especially cars like Mazda Miata's. So I went ahead and mounted a "prop up" type of tire carrier and have not had any legal concerns. (But my brake light is visible)

With the tire up and out of the way, you could still see over your tailgate as you referenced not being able to with the swing arm tire carriers.

With the tool box, I agree, but if you did not have the tool Box, then it might be pretty cool! Very functional (without the tool box)

but I like the way it is looking! I just wonder how many people, not in the "know" are going to comment "hey you don't have any supports on that thing, don't you need supports? Like on those light bars, blah blah blah."
