got my extended donahoes and 5100's the other day waiting for tuffcountry 5" and 2" bl lift.to make 8-9 inches total lift. ordered my 35-12.5 15's " baja claws off ebay. at first i was gonna get the 15x8 classic2's for aird down wheeling, but i saw this picture w 10" wide rims and it looks sweet. so what do you guys think? 15x8 or 10? have any pics of 8-9"s with 8" wide wheels?

a 15X8 wheel seems to narrow for the much lift. I'd go with a 10" wide wheel. At least that way you can have a farther offset to push the tires out more.

I have 15x10 with 33 12.5 super swamper TSL thornbirds and I love how wide my tires sit. I would say go for the 15x10. Good luck to ya!
Heres some pics of mine, let be know what you think!

i personally prefer a 8" rim. im running 16x8 classic II's on 35" baja claws. it could be a touch wider but 10" is too much for my taste and it just puts more strain on the front end

10" wide wheels will work better for a 12.5" wide tire, 8" wheels will wear the middle out if those tires quickly unless you run a lower pressure in the tires, I run 33" super swamper ssr's on 8" wheels and can't run more than 20 pouinds of air in them, I'm just waiting for a buddy to get back into town to get my 10" wheels out of his storage........I personally haven't seen anyone get more than 20k miles out of a set of claws.

I have heard that the radials get good mileage. I haven't seen it for my self but I have seen a set of the bais ply claws. If you get the bias ply claws you won't get much mileage probably 15k tops. They wear like boggers. The radial claws look sweet I would most diffently go for the 15x10's.

Definitely go w/ 15x10's, 15x8's won't look good to me. There's some wide wheel haters on here, so don't be suprised when they try and knock every1's opinion on having wider rims! They'll wear more evenly w/ more pressure in em'. 33's is the max I'd ever run a 15x8, and I wouldn't run it like that, lol. In the end it all boils down to personal preference. Peace, Wes

I'm not a huge fan of rock crawlers, but I love your truck man, looks good. Even though I know thornbirds aren't the greatest tire, they look good, haha!

Wslytoy, my truck is not a rock crawler. I just picked up 4 thornbirds for $400. It was a deal that i couldnt pass up. the only thing I hate is the thornbirds are nearly impossible to balance. Well thanks for your input, your trucks pretty sweet as well.

i have ran both... and though i like the way 10's look, the 8's ride so much better and are not as hard on the suspension. i think that 35's on 10's is a little much for our IFS. i plan on sticking with 10's with a MT for offroading and 8''s with an AT for normal everyday driving. just my .02

I've run 8 and 10" wheels with my 35s and personally I like the 8" better. I find the narrow bite of the 8" tends to dig in better for offroading. But when I was up around 9-10" of lift, the 10" wheel definatly improved stabilty onroad. However I did loose about 1mpg with the wider wheels. Now I'm down at 7" of lift and 8" wheels are perfect. Plus I just took a roadtrip and sqeezed out 22.5mpg =)

go with the 8's. maybe its just me, but wide rims dont look good. look at a lot of the desert trucks, they run 7 inch rims. I know your "supposed" to run a rim within 2 inches of your tire or whatever, but the narrower rim will hold the bead better.

A narrower wheel will definitely help keep the tire from de-beading when running at really low pressures. A narrower wheel is much easier to re-bead out on the trail too. A narrower wheel will be more protected from rocks, ever had a rock or somethign else rip out your valve stem? A narrower wheel will be much less of a 'lever' acting against things like your wheel bearings and other suspension components. I'm running 35" MTRs on 8" wheels. I don't have any problems getting a flat tread pattern with street pressures. I'm not a wide wheel hater like Wes thinks, just throwing out some different viewpoints. Later, ....Mike

hey man, well I was mainly referring to the style of rims you had, not the function of your truck ! But either way, it looks mean. yeah, T-birds are impossible to balance, so its a waste of time to try and get them to, haha!

man yall got me messed up. i had just placed a bid on some 15X8 american racing rims on e-bay when this thread started. i was going to put them on 33x12.50's under a 3 in body and 3 in cornfed lift. i lost the bid. so do you think the 10's would be better than the 8"s or is it just owner preference ?

Just remember your steering components will take more abuse w/ a wider wheel/treadwidth......
